WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SESSIONS AT CA?
I love a META-SWEAT but I have to say I can’t go past a MAX-AIR 60 – especially if my team wins!
WHAT DO YOU GET ASKED THE MOST ABOUT CA?
Most common question I get asked by someone who hasn’t trained with us; What’s it like? I will say it’s just like training anywhere except you’re going to see a faster response in heart rate, sweat rate, muscle fatigue and calorie burn.
WHAT’S THE IDEA BEHIND TRAINING IN 8 WEEK BLOCKS AND A 2 WEEK ROSTER?
We wanted to develop a structured training program for our ALL-STARS to experience how athletes would train. This includes different focus points throughout the blocks. As a result, we have seen less injuries, holds and cancellations as we are respecting the body more.
The two week rotating roster was designed in the event our ALL-STARS can only ever make Monday/Wednesday/Fridays, they will experience different sessions so the body doesn’t plateau. It also allows for Week One to be slightly more conditioning focused and then Week Two to be more resistance/strength geared.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT COACHING?
I love seeing people achieve something that they haven’t done before. It might be a new level of fitness or strength. It might be a new confidence they have in themselves. You can share that experience in real time with them!
WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE THE NO. 1 BENEFIT OF TRAINING AT ALTITUDE IS?
Improvements in V02 max, fitness, oxygen uptake – hands down. A more subtle but huge improvement I’ve seen with athletes is the efficiency in lactate buffering and production at sea level after a stint of altitude training.
DO YOU STILL TRAIN ELSEWHERE?
Of course! I’ll visit friends’ gyms and also play sports. First thing we always wanted to achieve at CA is to not be so arrogant in thinking our ALL-STARS should only train with us. Many do sport and like going to other gyms/health clubs. That’s why our unique membership structure works so well, it gives our ALL-STARS freedom in their training.
